You sweep through the shattered lab, scavenging for anything that might still hold purpose. Among the debris, a faint movement catches your eye, a worm-like organism, sealed behind the cracked glass of Jibby’s isolation chamber. Its body twitches, desperate for release. You reach for it. The containment field fails with a soft hiss, and the creature slips from your grasp, collapsing into the pool of spilled Ichor bleeding across the floor. The reaction is instantaneous. The worm convulses, its form distorting, bones, or something like them, pressing through its translucent skin. It twists into a grotesque configuration that defies biology, a fusion of instinct and infection. Then it looks at you. A slit opens where a mouth should be, pulsing in invitation. It urges you to breathe into it. Against reason, you do. From the creature’s central eye, a melody emerges that is delicate, haunting, and impossibly human. But as it inhales, the sound curdles into a shriek of discordant frequencies, a scream that isn’t a sound so much as a feeling, one that claws at your neural pathways and whispers of something vast, waiting to wake.
